Amber Extreme Heat Warning

14th Jul 2022

The Met Office has extended an amber extreme heat warning for Sunday 17 July, Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, as temperatures will build this weekend and early next week for much of England and Wales. The met office have reported that temperatures could be in excess of 35°C in the southeast.

We will be taking action in school to protect our children, which includes keeping windows open and encouraging children to stay in the shade as much as possible. It is also advised that children wear loose, light-coloured clothing which will help them keep cool. We are therefore happy that they do not wear uniform whilst the weather warning is in place.

Could we ask that all parents ensure that their child has sun-cream applied before attending school. Anyone who hasn’t already done so, is asked to send a named bottle of sun-cream into school, so that we can support your child to reapply this during the day as necessary.

We would also strongly suggest that children come to school with a named sun-hat, preferably either wide-brimmed or a legionnaire’s hat that protects the neck.
