Foreland Fields School has been accredited as a Centre of Excellence for our work supporting speech, language and communication needs. We have been a part of The Balanced System Scheme for Schools project for the past 18 months and successfully passed our assessment at the end of June. The Balanced System® framework, was devised to provide a practical, holistic solution to the challenge of meeting the needs of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
The assessors recognised that the range of provision to support speech and communication including specialist AAC (Alternative Augmentative Communication) is evident across all areas of the school. Senior managers are committed to communication as central to learning across the school. A real strength was recognised in the environment provided for our learners and the knowledge and skills of staff to support the wide range of needs.
We are very proud to be recognised as a Centre of Excellence and are already thinking of our next steps to build on provision for our very special learners.
