Rights Respecting School Award - The Outcome
I am really pleased to announce, the Unicef Professional Advisor that visited the school last week felt that the school had met the Standards for Unicef UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award at Level 1.
Foreland Fields School is therefore now a Level 1 Rights Respecting School. The report details all of the work we have put in over the past 18 months to demonstrate our commitment to the principles of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.
Highlights of the report include:
- School leaders show a strong commitment to the principles and values of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- Inclusion is at the heart of the school’s work and as part of the Foreland Fields’ ethos and values statement makes clear ‘each of our pupils is an individual, with individual needs- educational, social, medical, emotional and care. They have a right to have these needs met’.
- Pupils were able to cite a range of rights including the right to be heard, to an education, to be safe, to play, to have a home, the right to a name and to privacy.
- ‘Pupil voice’ is a strength of the school with a range of opportunities for pupils to express their views, ideas and to be heard.
Once again a big thank you to all members of our school community for helping us on this journey.
