School Closure 19.07.22

18th Jul 2022

In light of the continuing extreme weather warning, we have had to further review our plans.

We have had issues today with air conditioning units in some of the classes for our more complex pupils/students and the engineers cannot guarantee they can identify the issue and/or fix the units before school starts tomorrow.

Those classes without air conditioning have continued to increase in temperature throughout the day which has made it quite uncomfortable for our pupils/students and staff. Many of our pupils/students have struggled with not being able to go outside which has impacted on their behaviour.

Quite worryingly, we are to expect higher temperatures tomorrow.

After consulting with the leadership team, we have made the difficult decision to close the school tomorrow to all pupils and students. Please be assured that this decision has not been taken lightly. I have informed the Local Authority of this decision.

Class teachers will be in touch with parents/carers to arrange online sessions for pupils/students so please watch out for emails.

In the event that any parents/carers cannot have their child at home, or are unable to find appropriate child care, please let us know and we will attempt to accommodate them at school. Please email me on adrianmount@foreland.kent.sch.uk should you require this however, numbers will need to be limited due to lack of air conditioned areas.

Please note, our Garlinge Satellite class will be open as usual tomorrow. Parents/carers have the option of whether to send their children into Garlinge tomorrow, though staff will be in school as normal should they wish to attend.
