Meningoccal Disease Update

Meningitis Update
To confirm, we have had NO cases of meningitis at the school. We have had no contact from the UK Health Security Agency, indicating there are no direct links between this disease and our school.
The Joint Communication from the Director of Public Health and Executive Director advises educational settings to:
* Maintain Normal Attendance: Students who are well should continue to attend schools and colleges as normal.
* Report Suspected Cases: Settings must inform the UKHSA Health Protection Team immediately if they have a confirmed or suspected case.
* Raise Awareness: Schools are asked to be vigilant and educate staff, students, and parents on the signs and symptoms.
* Encourage Hygiene: Emphasise that students should not share items that exchange saliva, such as drinks, water bottles, cutlery, vapes, or cigarettes.
Symptoms to Monitor
Meningococcal disease can deteriorate rapidly. Seek medical help via 999 or A&E if a young person/student or staff member displays:
* Sudden high fever and severe headache.
* A non-fading rash (tested using the glass test).
* Stiff neck, dislike of bright lights, or confusion.
* Cold hands and feet or rapid breathing.
