SWGfL Online Safety Training for Parents and Carers - Thursday 4th June 12.30pm - 1.45pm

This is a session delivered by an expert. The session can be attended in person at the school, or by joining a teams link. The session will also be recorded for future use.

Online Safety for Parents of Children and Young People with SEND - Helping Families Navigate the Digital World with Confidence

In today’s connected world, understanding how children use technology is vital—especially for parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This interactive session offers a clear, engaging look at the digital platforms young people are using, how they engage with them, and what that means for their safety and wellbeing.

Discover the benefits and potential risks of the online world, and gain practical, accessible strategies to support your child’s digital life in a way that’s safe, positive, and empowering. You’ll leave equipped with knowledge to help you engage confidently in your child’s online journey.

Delivered by Traci Gregory from SWGfL, a world-leading online safety charity and founding member of the UK Safer Internet Centre. SWGfL works nationally and globally to protect children and young people online through policy advice, cutting-edge tools, and expert training. Our mission is simple: Everyone should benefit from technology—free from harm.

If you want to attend, please email me using the foreland@foreland.kent.sch.uk account. Please let me know the names of who will be attending and whether they want to attend in person or via Microsoft teams. If attending via Microsoft teams, please confirm which email account you would like me to send the invitation to. This training offer is part of our efforts as part of the Leading Parent Partnership Award.

What's Next Event - Friday 15th May 2026 10am - 12.30pm

What’s next for my child when they leave Foreland Fields School? It’s a great question and for many families, not always an easy one to answer.

To help support this important transition, we organise an annual event bringing together a range of providers, including day care, residential provision, supported living, internships, work experience opportunities, and continuing education.

This year’s event will take place on 15th May 2026, and everyone is welcome to attend. Please put the date in your diary and come along to explore what the future could look like for your child.

The National College - Free Courses and Resources

As part of our work towards the Leading Parent Partnership Award we have subscribed to the National College, which is a countrywide provider of training for schools and their communities. The link below will enable you to create your own account for free using your own personal email. When you register you will be asked what your role is, just scroll to the bottom and select the parent/carer option.

Unfortunately, the National College no longer have a mobile app, but once you have registered I would advise signing into their website via chrome and creating a bookmark for your own convenience.

There are a range of parent guides and courses available. The majority of these are focused on online safety, there are some useful guides on specific apps such as YouTube and Snapchat. The national college logo at the top is the home page button and there is also a useful search bar if you hit the directory button in the top left (three horizontal lines) of your screen.

We will endeavour to find more online training options which are specific to SEN.
