Post 16 Transport from September 2026
From September, KCC will no longer provide transport for your child if they are in Years 12, 13 or 14.
Schools are not responsible for arranging or, managing transport, but we will sign-post parents and carers to support where we can.
We have summarised the changes below, but the KCC Post-16 Transport Policy has further information.
Summary of Changes:
Students who are able to use public transport:
Parents/Carers should apply for a KCC 16+ Travel Saver Card annually. The cost is £630 per year and it entitles students to half price travel. There is financial support for low income families through 16-19 Bursary Fund.
KCC 16+ Travel Saver - Kent County Council
Students who are unable to use public transport due to their needs:
Parents/Carers should apply for a Personal Transport Budget (PTB) annually. This fund ranges from £1370 - £4370 – depending on the distance between home and school. Parents/Carers can use the PTB to make their own arrangements to get their child to school.
This funding may be withdrawn if attendance falls below 90%.
Post-16 Transport Assistance
In exceptional circumstances (related to the child’s disability), where neither the KCC 16+Travel Saver, nor the PTB enable parents/carers to get their child to school, they can request Post-16 Transport Assistance from KCC. There will be a cost to parents/carers.
Parents/Carers need to leave plenty of time to apply for transport. We would suggest beginning the process as soon as possible and at least by the end of term 5 (May/June).
